How to Search the Gilpin County Court Docket
Start with the free Gilpin-filtered Colorado Judicial Docket Search, which needs no login. It lists scheduled events. It is not a full case history. Before you search a Gilpin County court docket, figure out whether the matter sits in County Court, District Court, or a city court. A state case can be searched by party, business, attorney, division, or parts of its case number, and the form requires at least one filter beyond the date range.
- Keep Gilpin County selected and choose Gilpin Combined Court when a courthouse filter will help.
- Select Both, County, or District based on the case type. Use Both when the level is not yet clear.
- Choose a date range, then add a party, business, attorney, division, or case-number filter.
- Compare the result’s case number, hearing type, location, appearance mode, and courtroom with the court notice.
- Call or contact the clerk when no event appears, the setting changed, or a full ROA or filed document is needed.
You can print or export your results. Remember that a result is only a calendar entry, so it does not prove a hearing occurred or reveal its outcome. Tickets written in Central City or Black Hawk normally belong to the issuing municipal court, so start there unless the notice names Gilpin County Court.
Gilpin Docket Search Is a Calendar
The official Gilpin trial-court page sends readers to the statewide Docket Search and to separate channels for records and transcripts. That split matters. The public calendar answers when and where a scheduled event is listed. The ROA is the chronological summary, and it can include charges, sentences, and minute orders. A complaint, petition, written order, decree, or judgment sits in a third layer. You must request such a document on its own. The official court page is the main route into Gilpin County docket services.
The screen supports the local access chain. Check the calendar first for a setting, then ask the clerk for the register or document behind it.
- Docket Search
- The Colorado Judicial Branch list of scheduled hearings.
- Register of Action
- The case chronology, also called the ROA.
- Filed document
- The actual complaint, petition, motion, order, decree, or judgment.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated copy requested when official proof is required.
What a Court Docket Shows
A published Gilpin County setting carries enough detail to match an event. However, it is not a public electronic file. Read the whole row or card. Similar names can appear, and the case number is the stronger match. Appearance mode matters too. The court can label an event virtual, in person, or no appearance required.
| Date and time | The currently published start date and time for the setting. |
|---|---|
| Duration | The time allotted on the public calendar, not a promise of when the event will end. |
| Name or caption | The displayed party or case label used to help identify the matter. |
| Case number | The year, case class, and sequence identifying the state court file. |
| Hearing type | The listed event, such as arraignment, review, motions, pretrial, or trial. |
| Location and mode | The courthouse, courtroom, and appearance method shown for that event. |
The calendar leaves a lot out. Charges, party roles, judge, filing date, counsel, bond, plea, disposition, judgment, costs, ROA entries, and document images are all absent. Request the ROA or a named filing instead of inferring those facts from a setting.
One Gilpin Clerk, Two Court Levels
Gilpin County Court and Gilpin District Court both operate through the Gilpin Combined Court. Its address is 2960 Dory Hill Road, Suite 200, Black Hawk, Colorado 80422. The same state Judicial Branch clerk structure maintains both sets of files. The jurisdictions stay distinct, though. Anyone searching still must pick the right court level and case class.
The official Gilpin Combined Court location page publishes the working address. It lists phone 303-582-5522, fax 720-894-8659, and GilpinClerksOffice@judicial.state.co.us. Clerk hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mail goes to the Clerk of the Combined Court at the same address.
The location page makes the unified counter clear. Still, the case number and court type determine which Gilpin County docket holds the matter.
Note: General dockets may begin at 8:30 a.m., while the clerk counter opens at 9:00 a.m.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
Colorado splits its courts by jurisdiction, with general and limited state courts on one side and municipal ordinance cases kept with the cities. Gilpin belongs to the First Judicial District along with Jefferson County. The Judicial Branch trial-court jurisdiction page explains what County and District Courts each handle and how appeals travel.
Those state-level distinctions explain the local setup. One combined clerk can maintain separate County and District Court dockets because the two courts hold different powers.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to search |
|---|---|---|
| Gilpin County Court | Civil claims below $25,000, misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, protection orders, and initial felony work | State Docket Search, then Combined Court clerk |
| Gilpin District Court | Felonies, general civil, domestic, probate, juvenile, and mental-health matters | State Docket Search, then Combined Court clerk |
| Central City Municipal Court | City charter, ordinance, and municipal violations | City contact and municipal records route |
| Black Hawk Municipal Court | City misdemeanor, ordinance, traffic, and parking matters | Municipal court clerk and City Clerk records channels |
Gilpin County Case Numbers by Parts
Colorado's Docket Search breaks a case number into a four-digit year, a class, and a sequence of one to six digits. Take the sample format 2026CV30001. It splits into 2026, CV, and 30001. The sample shows the form only. It is not a real case.
Common classes include C for County civil, CR for District criminal, CV for District civil, DR for domestic relations, JD for juvenile delinquency, JV for juvenile, M for misdemeanor, PR for probate, S for small claims, and T for traffic. The interface also offers R, but Gilpin publishes no local glossary explaining it. Do not guess. If the class is unclear, select Both court levels and lean on another known filter.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
The practical chain is simple. Use the current Gilpin County calendar result. Then check the filed notice or ROA, the virtual courtroom directory when relevant, and clerk confirmation. A prior printout stops being authoritative after a continuance. Public results never show reset history. So the current notice or the clerk must resolve the question. Was an older setting vacated, moved, or held?
Read the appearance field closely. Watching a livestream does not count as appearing. Virtual participation requires approval plus the assigned judicial officer's meeting information. Eligible CR, T, M, and JD participants may get state text reminders. Those messages supplement rather than replace a court order or notice.
Weekend bond hearings follow a separate First District schedule and can shift during holiday weeks. Confirm the live schedule instead of trusting a copied time. For more on settings, see the Gilpin County Court Calendar.
Gilpin County Filing Scale
Gilpin is a small county inside a much larger shared district. The Colorado Judicial Branch annual statistics archive and its FY2024 report hold the official source tables. Add the printed County and District totals. You get 1,545 state trial-court filings in FY2024. That sum is an inference drawn from the two official tables. Municipal cases are excluded.
The archive gives useful context for the local docket. It does not turn a filing count into a claim about delay or backlog. Annual workload is one thing; the live status of a single file is another.
The two court levels carried different dockets. County Court handled civil, felony complaints, misdemeanor, traffic, small claims, and infractions. District Court took criminal, civil, domestic, juvenile, mental health, and probate. County filings totaled 314 misdemeanors. Traffic added 283. Infractions reached 372, alongside 135 felony complaints, 113 civil matters, and 7 small claims. District Court recorded 153 criminal filings, 93 civil matters, 33 domestic cases, 31 probate cases, 8 mental-health matters, and 3 juvenile filings. Picking the right class and level matters. The counts do not show case length or hearing results, so no filing count tells you whether a case ever reached a hearing.
Public Access to Dockets
Access depends on what you want. The free calendar shows ordinary published settings. A particular court file goes through the clerk under Colorado court-record rules. Judicial Branch administrative records take a separate route, and a general county open-records form is no substitute for requesting a case document from the filing court.
Colorado access rules:
CJD 05-01 governs inspection and copies of court records while accounting for privacy, accuracy, and cost.
CJD 06-01 supports court fees and costs, including copy and certification charges.
P.A.I.R.R. 2 and the Judicial Branch access guide distinguish administrative records from case-file requests.
Suppressed, sealed, juvenile, probate, and protected material can be restricted or require government photo identification. A missing result does not prove sealing. Check spelling, date range, municipality, court level, and class before calling the clerk.
Gilpin ROA, Document, or Copy
Ask for the product that fits the task. An ROA gives a brief chronology. A named filing supplies the actual text of a complaint, petition, motion, order, or judgment. Certification authenticates a copy. A hearing transcript follows the separate JDF 4 or local transcript channel, and the $25 Transcript of Judgment is a clerk document rather than a verbatim hearing transcript.
| Need | Channel | Published fee or limit |
|---|---|---|
| ROA or plain document | Official request form, counter, mail, phone, or email coordination | $0.25 per page; party and attorney copy cap of $15 |
| Certified or exemplified document | Certification choice on request form | $20 per document plus copy costs |
| Name search | Clerk request | $5 |
| Off-site file | Clerk retrieval | Actual retrieval cost |
| Research or redaction | Clerk staff work | $30 per hour in 15-minute units after the first hour |
Timing matters here. The official form says a response normally comes within three business days absent extenuating circumstances. Large or archived requests get no such promise.
Give the clerk everything useful: the case number when known, the year and court location, party details, and a precise document name. The statewide form also asks for case type. It lets you add other facts that help the clerk distinguish similar records. Check the certification box only if an authenticated copy is truly required. Payment and delivery instructions follow review. So do not assume a Gilpin County docket record will arrive online or the same day. Protected classes can trigger an identification check.
The Clerk and Docket Records
The Clerk of the Gilpin Combined Court does the daily work. It accepts filings. It keeps County and District Court records. It also answers document requests, collects state court payments, and issues authenticated copies. Every documented channel counts. The free Docket Search covers settings. Phone, email, the counter, and mail complete the basic options. The statewide Record/Document Request Form, JDF 4 for transcripts, and CCE for authorized filing and eligible own-case access round out the choices.

Call first. Do it if same-day certification, an older file, identification, or an on-site terminal matters, because the court's public pages promise no lobby terminal and do not describe its contents.
Gilpin E-Filing Is Not Public Search
Colorado Courts E-Filing is the state's filing engine. People call it CCE or EFS. Attorneys and authorized filers use it to file. A self-represented person may register and opt into an existing eligible domestic-relations or eviction matter. After approval, that person gains access to the case. That is not permission to search other people's files.
The technology keeps changing without becoming a new public docket. A certification prompt tied to 2025 legislation appeared in March 2026 and was removed in June 2026 after later legislation, as the Judicial Branch CCE update documents. It never became a public name search. For public scheduled events, use Docket Search. For the official chronology or documents, use the clerk.
Authorized self-represented users face limits that matter in Gilpin County. Opt-in requires an existing eligible case, and acceptance may take up to two business days. Published charges include the statutory filing fee plus a system fee for an accepted filing, with another fee when electronic service is used. Those are filing costs, not fees for a public calendar lookup. Someone who only wants to confirm a court date should stay with the free calendar and clerk confirmation path.
Court Dockets by City in Gilpin County
Gilpin County has two incorporated municipalities, per the Colorado State Demography Office's 2020 Census tables and the official 2020 Census county map. Municipal courts keep city files apart from the state Combined Court. A city citation may never reach the state calendar. Read the issuing court on the notice first.
Central City Court Docket
Municipal charter, ordinance, and city citation records. Central City is a qualified court of record except for parking.
Black Hawk Court Docket
Municipal misdemeanor, ordinance, traffic, and parking matters, with the city clerk and court as local contacts.
Jurisdiction decides the route. State charges bypass or leave the municipal route when jurisdiction requires it, and Black Hawk expressly directs DUI, DWAI, registration complaints, and domestic-violence cases to Gilpin County Court. The state clerk cannot certify a municipal file.
Historic Gilpin Courthouse Addresses
Older Gilpin County records may point to the NPS-documented 1900 courthouse at 203 Eureka Street in Central City. That Italian Villa-style building still hosts county-government meetings. Current state County and District Court operations sit on Dory Hill Road in Black Hawk. Knowing the difference prevents a wasted trip. Archival material may carry a different court address.
The Colorado judicial-district map places Gilpin County in the First Judicial District with Jefferson County.
One district serves both counties, so duty, specialty, and some weekend schedules are shared. Gilpin County still keeps its own docket files, though, and the district map shows exactly how that split works.
Map and Directions to the Gilpin Combined Court
County Court and District Court files for Gilpin County are kept at the Gilpin Combined Court, 2960 Dory Hill Road, Suite 200, in Black Hawk. Docket settings begin at 8:30 a.m., but the clerk counter itself opens at 9:00 a.m., so an early hearing time is not an invitation to arrive at the counter that early. This modern facility is not the picturesque 1900 courthouse at 203 Eureka Street in Central City, which today serves only as a county-government meeting site.

The court's public pages do not describe parking, security screening, or a lobby terminal, so calling 303-582-5522 before traveling is the safer plan, especially for an older file, an identification-dependent record, or same-day certification. A document request can also go by fax to 720-894-8659 or email instead of an in-person trip.
